millau bridge languedocThe Location

Located in the region of the Cevennes National Park lies the Gorges du Tarn.
Cutting a 500 metre swathe through the Grande Causses, the area provides some of the most breathtaking scenery in France.

A relatively unknown area, the Gorges and surrounding land are perhaps best known for the Viaduct that now pierces the sky above the valley in the nearby town of Millau.

Such a grand structure fittingly marks the beginning of a journey through the least
inhabited and one of the best kept secrets in France. Over 35 kilometres of unspoilt locations that can amaze and excite even the most ardent of artists and travellers.

With its own mini-climate, the Gorges of the Tarn, La Jonte and Dourbie stretch through
the haven of flora and wildlife that makes this region so unique, local villages conceal life
that remind you of an age gone by.

The seasons change here as they used to, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, all with their special hue on the canvas laid before you.

landscape scenery

Formations and rock faces, such as Les Detroits, have a vast array of colours that glow and change within the course of the day and night. Orange and Ochre tints transforming into the most vibrant scenes that you could wish to encounter.

Views over the Gorge that take your breath away as the vastness of this creation beckons
you to follow into its spell. Rivers that flow, dancing over rocks and formations, from eddies to violent waterfalls - there are no shortages of variation for the painter.

Medieval architecture stands rugged and proud throughout the department of Lozere, recording the history, toil and determination of the folk from this valley.

Ancient buildings that still defy gravity after the ravages of time, perch upon rocky
outcrops above the relentless passing of the river.

The local population is older than the average in France, and is still practicing most of the customs and delights from years ago, and by still producing food and wine as they were in the early part of the last century, it is a living museum to rural life.

From the unique Chateau's of the river, to ancient and protected churches and houses,
all of this area has a tale to tell, whether it be St.Enemie and her battle with the
devil, or the beautiful maidens that lived in the nearby Chateau de la Caze.
